HAPPY BIRTHDAY ALASKA

History of Alaska

Alaska in 1895 (Rand McNally). The boundary of southeastern Alaska shown is that claimed by the United States prior to the conclusion of the Alaska boundary dispute.

The history of Alaska dates back to the Upper Paleolithic period (around 14,000 BC), when wanderer groups crossed the Bering land bridge into what is now western Alaska. At the time of European contact by the Russian explorers, the area was populated by Alaska Native groups. The name "Alaska" derives from the Aleut word Alaxsxaq (also spelled Alyeska), meaning "mainland" (literally, "the object toward which the action of the sea is directed").[1]

The U.S. purchased Alaska from Russia in 1867. In the 1890s, gold rushes in Alaska and the nearby Yukon Territory brought thousands of miners and settlers to Alaska. Alaska was granted territorial status in 1912 by the United States of America.

In 1942, two of the outer Aleutian Islands—Attu and Kiska—were occupied by the Japanese during World War II and their recovery for the U.S. became a matter of national pride. The construction of military bases contributed to the population growth of some Alaskan cities.

Alaska was granted U.S. statehood on January 3, 1959.

In 1964, the massive "Good Friday earthquake" killed 131 people and leveled several villages.

The 1968 discovery of oil at Prudhoe Bay and the 1977 completion of the Trans-Alaska Pipeline led to an oil boom. In 1989, the Exxon Valdez hit a reef in Prince William Sound, spilling between 11 and 34 million U.S. gallons (42,000 and 130,000 m3) of crude oil over 1,100 miles (1,600 km) of coastline. Today, the battle between philosophies of development and conservation is seen in the contentious debate over oil drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.

Happy Birthday to my home!!!  Politadick

January 3 at 2:41 PM  Alaska  KTOO  Judge dismisses Alaska bonding plan lawsuit  A state court judge has dismissed a challenge to former Gov. Bill Walker's plan to use bonding to pay Alaska's oil and gas tax credit obligations.

Future generations of Alaska are going to pay for the failed legislation passed by giving tax credits to the already rich oil companies.

Clearly this judge unfortunately with this decision has saddled Alaskans with a Debt to pay that obviously never should have happened.

“(Forrer’s concern the proposal “may saddle future generations of Alaskans with a crushing economic burden are genuine and deserve serious consideration,” Pate wrote.)”  Politadick

This Vote here is what the next two years are going to look like in the House.

Get ready for massive welfare increases and funding for abortions around the world to be added in, legislation to give illegal immigrants citizenship without earning it and making those doing it the legal way suffer because they had to still earn theirs, faster access for crossing the border, supporting Heroin and Human trafficking because it’s the Democrat way.

Buckle up and make sure you have our Senators on speed dial and emails in your contact lists. This is going to be a long two years.  Politadick

January 3 at 6:03 PM  Alaska  Permanent Fund Defenders  Beware of cuts to the PFD and cuts to the truth, too! This ADN writer likes PFDs cut in half and HALF TRUTHS too! Ryan Foisy, a Palmer teacher, says that Gov. Jay Hammond intended the main purpose of the Permanent Fund is to sustain government when resource revenue bottoms out not PFDs. That's a half-truth - It's true we can use some funds for government but Hammond always said the PFD is Alaskans share of wealth and it is needed to make Alaskans watchdogs to stop government raids on the Fund. Hammond NEVER said cap the PFD! Another half-truth that Gov. Wally Hickel was entirely opposed the dividend. He opposed it early in his life but later supported it...Hickel realized that Alaskans are the shareholders and owners of resource wealth in the Commons and that a dividend alleviates poverty. He supported it.
Foisy says it's wrong for the People to decide on Permanent Fund issues. Strike three! The People are the guardians of the Fund and must vote on changes to the Fund not allow politicians to raid our saving as they have done for the last 3 years instead of reforming government and passing new revenue measures.

ADN  Redirect the dividend  I do not want $3,000, I want my students and future children to have a good education.

The powerful Union Mobs are trying to convince you that the PFD is theirs and you have no rights to it. Our teachers should know better then to support this corruption happening here in Alaska. But they don’t. They only care about how big of a raise they will get by raiding it.  Politadick

Fairbanks man arrested twice in one day for vehicle theft:

A Fairbanks man was arrested not once, but twice in one day. Jerry Green, 44 of Fairbanks, was arrested early Wednesday morning when Troopers pulled him over after seeing him driving a brand new GMC Sierra still covered in shipping wrap. The vehicle was stolen from the local Chevy dealer. According to charging documents, he claimed he was an Agent of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and was picking up his vehicle from his lot.

He was charged with theft, vehicle theft and impersonating a peace officer at the time. Green was released and late Wednesday night. Later, Troopers were responding to a report that someone was attempting to steal a semi-truck and trailer from Airport Equipment and Rental, and Green was arrested a second time still wearing his yellow jumpsuit. According to the Alaska State Trooper Dispatch, Green nearly struck a Trooper vehicle with the stolen semi, and was stopped after Troopers deployed spike strips.

SB91 works extremely well doesn’t it...? Wouldn’t shock me to find out that he has been released again already.  Politadick
