March 29 at 5:14pm  Alaska  Senator Shelly Hughes

Wish I’d known about this earlier to get the word out – but you still have 3 days to weigh in online – until this Sunday, April 1 at 11:59pm! Take this IMPORTANT SURVEY on the GLENN HIGHWAY related to ROAD CLOSURES and TRAFFIC FLOW. (Please don’t just comment here on Facebook but do so also at the survey link!). Do you think the Knik Arm bridge would help alleviate traffic? Do you think left-lane passing enforcement would help (left lane pokers must – not just should – move to right lane)? Where are the most dangerous accident-prone areas along the route? You likely have other ideas. This is your big chance to make suggestions on how to divert traffic when the highway closes, on how to improve traffic and decrease congestion in general, on how to decrease accidents, slowdowns, etc. Results from survey should be available to public in June. Click link to take easy survey (you do NOT have to read my entire post to take the survey!)

https://glennstudy.metroquest.com/

The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF), in cooperation with the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), is preparing this Integrated Corridor Management (ICM) Study (funded through the Anchorage Metropolitan Area Transportation Solutions - AMATS).

THREE GOALS OF STUDY:

1. Identify methods to improve the efficiency of the movement of people and goods along the corridor. (My thoughts: hope this includes identifying ways to minimize recurring* delays, i.e, daily congestion.)

2. Identify factors relating to the reasons for non-recurring** delays, including incident response times and clearing times. (My thoughts: hope the next step will be taken then to plan for re-routing traffic quickly and efficiently.)

3. Increase the predictability of travel through the corridor.

*Recurring congestion refers to delay that is experienced on a roadway on a daily basis simply because there are so many people using the roadway.
**Non-recurring congestion refers to delay that is caused by other factors, such as: a lane closure due to a crash or construction; special events that cause more traffic than usual; or weather events.

To sign up to receive updates and stay informed on this project, contact joannmitchell@kinneyeng.com, the Public Involvement Coordinator, with Kinney Engineering.

Process

The team will identify the factors that relate to the reason for non-recurring delays, including incident response times and clearing times. Information will be collected by reviewing previously completed reports, speaking with key agencies, organizations, and the public.

The ICM will examine alternative ways to route traffic for lane shutdown conditions including existing routes as well as the potential to connect and complete frontage roads. Alternative modes of transportation, including commuter rail service as a possible option, will be considered.

We will evaluate the performance of recently implemented measures to reduce delay, the anticipated performance of new measures identified, as well as how feasible they are to implement. The ICM will look at incorporating, refining, and integrating current practices. Evaluation will take into account delay for all user groups as well as their safety including pedestrians, cyclists, transit users, drivers, truckers, and responders.

End Product

A report will be produced with recommended measures for future implementation.

They purposely seem to never let you know till the last minute.... Take two minutes and tell them what you think. The road could of had the fix in less that 12 Hrs..... but for some reason the Gov of ours did nothing for a day and a half.....
