I’m one of the Swamp that needs to be drained.
I want to raise the taxes you pay. Impose a Income Tax to your earnings because you shouldn’t be allowed to spend your own money you earn. It’s mine and I know how to spend it better then you do.
The last 12 years and the time I have served myself, have worked hard to make sure that Oil Companies in Alaska don’t have the stability they need to do their jobs, because I think we know better then they do how to run their companies.

Interesting second week of the session. Two bills, if they pass, would devastate our resource industries and the jobs they create. House Bill 199 is being heard in the Fisheries Committee. This bill may or may not replace the Save Our Salmon initiative, which is in front of the Supreme Court (hint, if it’s already in court, there may be a problem with the idea). I’m not going into detail on this bill until later this week. But so far, what I’ve heard ain’t good!!
House Bill 288 had its first hearing in House Resources yesterday. This bill is written by Reps. Tarr, Josephson and Seaton. It increases oil taxes by almost $250 million, right when we are getting more exploration on the North Slope to produce more oil. The ink isn’t even dry yet on the last, massive law, that raised oil and gas taxes. That law, HB 111, passed in July, during one of the special sessions. And yet, here we go again.
Here’s something interesting. The House majority demanded we also create a working group, to look at overhauling our oil and gas tax system. After months of negotiations, I and most lawmakers agreed on this compromise bill, and sent the working group to do its job.This group has met several times but so far no recommendations have come. Nada. Zilch. The reason is simple: the bill just passed in July, and the working group needs time to understand a system worth billions of dollars to our state.
Yet Reps. Tarr, Josephson and Seaton have jumped the gun, because change, and finding change, wasn’t happening fast enough. This is discouraging, and undercuts the demands made just 6 months ago. Either you want time to look at something, or you’re just interested in getting more money to spend. I’ll let you decide.
The House Majority decided to kick off this session by trying, once again, to kill jobs and declare war on businesses that are the Backbone to our state’s economy. Instead of economic development, the main effort from House leadership appears to want to kill our state industries and the desperately needed Alaska jobs that come with that….#notmyalaskafuture #industrykillers #jobkillers

The same names keep coming up as the leaders of all of the failed agendas of taxation of the working class and outright shutting down industry growth.
If you read the one posted earlier this week about what California is Doing to Businesses and how that will make Businesses and the working population leave state. What they are trying to do again this year will have that end result.

Let’s thank Rep Chris Birch, Representative DeLena Johnson, Representative George Rauscher and Rep. Dave Talerico for driving the conversation against higher oil taxes in yesterday’s House Resources Committee meeting. HB 288 will nearly double the minimum tax on oil and gas, freezing long-term investment in Alaska’s oil and gas industry and eventually reversing gains in production volume and exploration. Alaska’s economic future is at stake – ask your legislators to oppose HB 288 today.

clearly they want to drive oil production into the ground because
oil companies will not invest into new production if the costs go
sky high. They will just pack up and move places that won’t have
this problem.
