August 6 at 8:08 AM  Alaska  Mike Shower for Senate  I've been inundated over the last month or two with requests to fill out surveys, questionnaires and pledges from various groups, PACs, lobbyist and special interest groups. And asked to make promises on how I'd support certain legislation, policies, etc. (or not). Because I've been asked by a few people recently why I didn't sign a particular pledge/survey/etc., I feel it's necessary to explain what I've decided to do. One of the vexing problems we face is undue influence in our political process. People receive money, endorsements, and other various promises that normally go along with this process we've become accustomed to ($2 billion dollars in the last presidential election cycle?). Enough! I had started to fill out and turn in a few surveys and questionnaires in the beginning of this cycle and then watched what has happened to some legislators that didn't do exactly what certain special interests wanted them to do. I thought hmmm, this is exactly the way I felt about how the binding caucus is run. My way or the highway and influencing legislators to behave or vote a certain way -- "or else". A primary reason I didn't join the 'binding' GOP caucus. I will not be influenced by someone holding a piece of paper I signed over my head demanding I "do" something or suffer the consequences. I'm tired of undue influence in our political process, as I know most of you are. I will act based on my Christian, conservative and constitutionally "influenced" view of legislation and how I behave as your state Senator - period. Nothing more, nothing less.

Hi! I’m a Democrat that is running for the seat Congressman Don young has. Me and my other Dem that is running this year want to give free healthcare to everyone. At a national level this comes with a price tag of $7,000,000,000,000 Trillion a year and a 65% in increase of your taxes that you are paying.

In Alaska alone we would have to come up with $5,000,000,000-7 Billion a year to cover it all. Yet $4 Billion is about all we seem to bring in each year for taxes.

Is this what Alaskans really wants to have happen? I also know we can tax all the rich people in Alaska like our Governor for the extra we will need. He won’t mind giving a few Million a year to make this happen.  Politadick
