controversial decision As the race for gubernatorial race in
Alaska heats up, incumbent Gov. Bill Walker on Thursday touted Medicaid
expansion as a major milestone during his administration.
“I accepted it unilaterally, under my authority in the constitution. I
accepted Medicaid expansion,” Gov. Bill Walker explained at a press
conference held at the Anchorage Neighborhood Health Center on the third
anniversary of that decision.

Connected with seniors today at WASI* and this particular fellow stole
my heart. Woody Conklin, age 94, is a WWII hero who endured many
battles, lost an eye, and
took a bullet to his shoulder (had it been a little lower, he wouldn’t
have survived). He’s cheerful and appreciative - such a wonderful
attitude. At the same time, he’s alarmed by the rate of suicide among
Veterans. Woody has a heart of gold. Let’s share his concern and connect
with and actively support Veterans we know. I was happy to learn that
Woody was recently awarded a Medal of Valor by the Veterans of Foreign
Wars. So grateful to have had time today with this gentleman as well as
to connect with many fine seniors to hear what’s on their minds.
