FAIRBANKS — The city of Nenana has not been paying its bills and holds
significant debt, according to officials at the Alaska Department of
Commerce, Community and Economic Development.
The depth of Nenana’s debt and the root cause are still being
investigated, but the city is behind on payments to the Internal Revenue
Service, Alaska’s Public Employees’ Retirement System, the Alaska
Railroad and additional local entities.
