Reminder: Mat-Su Borough Tax Hike Tuesday, 4/17/2018

Assembly Meeting Tuesday, 4/17/2018
Where: Assembly Chambers - 350 E. Dahlia Ave., Palmer
When: 6:00 PM
Testify: During public hearings - OR 18-014 Education Funding, OR 18-015 New Tax Cap

Neither the Borough nor the Assembly have done anything significant to cut spending, but insist on giving the School District more when correction is what is needed.

Some points to consider:
The main purpose appears to be to grant the School District an increase based on the value of property assessments now and in the future, regardless of student enrollment

As property assessments increase, the local support for schools increases regardless of enrollment

Would this effort drive increases in assessments?

The calculation under the proposed change will give the School District another increase of 3.75% for FY 2019.

Mat-Su students are, on average, performing poorly as compared to the rest of the nation.

Why are we rewarding poor performance of the School District with additional money and expecting the situation to improve?

The old formula linked the student enrollment to the amount of money proportioned. The new formula does not.

New Formula proposed:
FY 2019 Taxable Assessed Value: $9,269,669,000 *.00625 = $57,935,431.25 a 3.75% increase from last FY 2018

Taxes, Taxes, Taxes!

For those Living in the Matsu Valley.... This is one meeting I’m sure you do not want to miss...

PHONE NUMBER CLARIFICATION: If you are in the Anchorage Area, we are receiving reports that the 844 number DOES NOT WORK. Anchorage testifiers please call 563-9085 to provide your testimony!

LET'S MAKE IT COUNT: This Thursday, for the first time, my SB 91 repeal bill, SB 127, is getting a hearing with public testimony!

The Senate Finance Committee will be taking public testimony on my repeal bill, SB 127, on Thursday, April 19th at 1:30 pm.

If you believe, as I do, that Senate Bill 91 needs to be repealed so we can take a fresh look at our criminal justice system, then we need to hear from you. Here's how you can make your voice heard:

- Send your testimony by email to Senate.Finance.Committee@ akleg.gov
- Call in to the hearing at 1-844-586-9085
- Or testify in person at the Anchorage LIO (1500 West Benson Blvd) -- or your local LIO if you aren't in Anchorage.

This hearing is very important, and it is crucial that your legislators hear from you. Please take the time to contribute your views, and help make Alaska safe again!

Put this one on your calendars for this Week!

Repeal of SB91 with Public Testimony!

Even though we all know that what we say clearly is a repeat of every Town Hall they have had on the subject! Every public notice by our Lawmakers, Every News Outlet and Every other place that you can think of......

Unless you are in the Special Interests groups that are trying to keep this alive.... Why don’t We don’t here from you....? Could that be because, you have deep pockets in Juneau, keeping it in place...?

Politadick

One of these Special Interests Groups represents 35% of all Alaskans and half of the ones that would of been in jail, those laws are keeping out of jail....

Is this just a coincidence?

April 16 at 7:52pm  Alaska  Representative Lora Reinbold  Photo's  The Legislature does their salaries differently--we get reports from HR not from finance because staff are "political" in nature. HR does salaries by the month so you need to times these by 12. Some staff get lower/higher during session/interim many only work during session- this is a good vector on the top 25 salaries in the legislative branch. Most are Juneau Leg Affairs staff. We have put the chart for "total compensation" which is slightly different than the Executive Branch. Not to defend any salary but please note the Judicial branch spends about 2-3% of total budget & the Legislative branch spends about 2-3% of the total budget--the Executive Branch spends about 95% of the total budget. Prof Staff are the staffers--note most of them do not make the top 25 list--my staff are grade 16 A est $ 54,000 (session only staff) & 19 step A estimate $64,000 annual salary-I only get one full time staff year round. Please note most staffer get no per diem & have to have 2 households--for many of them it is a huge sacrifice to be in Juneau yet the Legislature gets the most scrutiny in the media.I can't help to say my staff often work 10-12 hour days 6 days a week during session.

Wow.....

I’m in the wrong line of work....

They make more in two months then someone working at McDonalds makes all year....
