November 11 at 1:22pm  Alaska  KTUU 2  Alaskan soldier killed in Afghanistan honored at Mat-Su Veterans Day Ceremony  Only July 3rd, Kirkpatrick was on a mission in Afghanistan when he was killed after an attack by the Taliban.  PFC Hansen Kirkpatrick was honored ahead of Veterans Day in the Mat-Su Valley. His family said they didn't just want to remember their son but every veteran "putting their lives on the line for our freedom."

November 11 at 1:44pm  Alaska  Representative Lora Reinbold  I proposed over a dozen amendments with my colleagues in the Judiciary to help fix SB 91. I sponsored over a dozen & fought for around 3 dozen amendments on the house floor over a brutal 2 weeks. I was absolutely heartbroken my amendments to turn legislative focus from the soft on crime/help the offender to a focus on prevention and helping the victims sadly failed 21 no to 19 yes. I did get a critical amendment to toughen C felony offenses such as car theft or stealing a firearm strengthened.

There can be 2 years active jail even for the first offense! In the house version another amendment that I sponsored passed requiring 25 hours of community service for vandalism. 
ADN summed this brutal 2 week debate up below:  Eagle River Republican Rep. Lora Reinbold, one of SB 91's most strident critics, said she has 20 amendments that aim to correct problems she's identified with the overhaul. She acknowledged that some may not pass, but said they'd still help raise "red flags" with last year's bill.

Clearly they don’t want to fix what is wrong. 

Looks like they are just trying to cause the budget to continue to grow and are using this as a way in the future to claim they need more money (Taxes)

November 11 at 1:51pm  Alaska Public Media  ANWR   Murkowski reveals Arctic Refuge drilling details  The ANWR measure will be the subject of debate in the Senate Energy Committee next week. It calls for a 50-50 revenue split between the state and the feds.  Murkowski’s part of the bill would lift the ban on drilling in the so-called 1002 area, along the coastal plain of the refore. It would split revenues 50-50 between the state and the federal government.


I love the idea of getting ANWR open for development 

But Senator Lisa Rino Murkowski and “He Who Shall Not Be Named” have taken our Alaskan split of 90/10 and has sold out Alaskans futures by making the unilateral decision that a 50/50 split is acceptable

Time for Alaskans to recall them both, before our future generations, have no future in Alaska.

November 11 at 2:54pm  Alaska  ADN  Bean’s Cafe forced to close nighttime shelter  Without Bean's, Anchorage must find space for more than 100 shelter beds.  Finding enough shelter beds in Anchorage to accommodate everyone who needs them just got tougher.

Just think all that money that has gone into special sessions and do nothing legislation could have funded them for years and years and years....  Politadick
November 11 at 2:56pm  Alaska Dallas Seavey is launching his own investigation into his dogs’ failed drug tests  The four-time Iditarod champion is demanding a list of documents from the Iditarod Trail Committee so he can proceed with the probe.  Seavey has asked the Iditarod Trail Committee for more information about his dogs' drug tests so he can launch his own probe.

November 11 at 4:28pm  Alaska  KTUU 2 Fortymile Caribou Herd grows to record levels  Interior Alaska's largest herd of caribou has grown to a level not seen since the 1920s.  Alaska Department of Fish and Game biologist Jeff Gross says the 2017 number is preliminary as the herd has only been counted once from the aerial photographs used for the census.

Those that are using the Caribou as an excuse to not open up ANWR, don’t have a leg to stand on with this announcement....

November 11 at 4:54pm  Alaska  Bill Wielechowski Midnight Sun AK  Despite warnings, Senate approves constitutionally flawed crime bill and goes home | The Midnight Sun   The Senate refused to fix a last-minute amendment that could leave a key provision at risk of being overturned.  We need to fix SB 91, but we need to fix if right. This change will very likely be ruled unconstitutional, let numerous felons out of jail and cost the state huge litigation fees. That's why I voted to send this bill to Conference Committee. We needed to get the job done correctly, and this didn't do it.

This is not what Alaskans have told them to do.

The changes made, does not address all of the problems that SB91 created and those hooked on drugs will continue to do what they do, until help is provided.

SB54 is Still a soft on crime bill that ultimately will make things worse down the road.

I think what I said about this in the Must Read Alaska article fits this one too.....

It’s like watching a really bad Soap Opera on TV.

Take a plot that was already bad (SB91) and add a plot twist (SB54). Throw in a Monkey eating a banana (Walker) and a bunch of people heading out on a Three Hour Cruise and the show is a go...
