Last night a 22-year-old Anchorage woman was shot and is in critical condition. Since last week, a man was shot while paying at a McDonald's Drive-Thru, and Anchorage police shot a hatchet-wielding convict who simply walked away from a halfway house. That same day Anchorage saw a bank robbery and another young woman stabbed at a bus stop. The day prior, we saw a second bank robbery and separate stabbing. On Sunday another convict walked away from another Anchorage halfway house.
Perhaps as an escaped convict he will now become a law-abiding citizen and no one else will get hurt. Or perhaps we have a public safety crisis on our hands that must be addressed immediately.

Alaska should incorporate a policy that all budgeted line items should be done as a up and down vote and not a lumped together bill. The deficit that Alaska and US Government has would drop by hundreds of billions of dollars a year if they were to do this. And if each state incorporated this into their own budgeting practices, would find themselves becoming fiscally responsible for their taxpayers money! Instead of adding funding for programs that never would of passed through the budgeting process on its own get attached to what has to be. Causing all Alaskans to pay for it through our tax dollars. By doing this they would never be able take our PFD's, because they wouldn't need to by being fiscally responsible with our tax payers money!
