Suzanne Downing sheds some light on why Joe Arpaio was convicted of a misdemeanor by the Federales:

He was convicted of doing his job:  ABOUT THAT JOE ARPAIO

With gnashing of teeth over President Trump's pardon of former Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio, age 85, it would be easy to believe that Arpaio was some kind of drug-dealing mastermind criminal.  Let's remember that Arpaio was pardoned for a misdemeanor conviction.
Or, as the mainstream media keeps saying, a "criminal misdemeanor."
What is a criminal misdemeanor? Offenses like vandalism, drug possession, shoplifting, trespassing and petty theft.

What did the "criminal misdemeanant" Arpaio do?
He ignored a court order to stop asking suspected illegal immigrants for their ID. He kept doing his job under state law until the feds threw the book at him.
A 2010 Arizona law required officers to check the immigration status of people during a lawful stop, detention or arrest if there's "probable cause" they're in the country illegally. A federal judge blocked the law but the Supreme Court in 2012 upheld this aspect of it.

HISTORY LESSON: Arpaio, the lawman elected by people of his county, responded aggressively to the crush of illegal immigration and gang violence that swept the nation under the Obama presidency's open border policies. Arpaio's "think-global, act-local" response was due to an Obama policy that invited illegal immigrants -- thousands per day.

While illegal immigration used to be a cottage industry for those living along the border, it's now the realm of drug cartels. Among the thousands of illegal's, many were gang members, including those belonging to the notorious MS-13.

Presidents are afforded broad powers to pardon. So where was the liberal outrage when Obama pardoned actual felons? Or when Clinton pardoned fugitive financier Marc Rich, whose family just happened to have raised the money for the Clinton Library and cash for Hillary's Senate campaign? And who can forget the Obama commutation of Bradley Manning, the leaker of military intelligence who now goes by the name Chelsea?

On the other hand, Arpaio was avante garde with the pink garments and vegan meals. PETA should send him a cake. Eggless of course."

Contrast ethic of Joe with that of the current elected Sheriff of Maricopa County who is releasing potential criminals at a rate of hundreds per week and refusing to cooperate with ICE.
